I ended up watching both in the background while doing some work on my laptop. I forgot how enjoyable "Steamboat" is. The music alone was so good - the twangy banjo representing the old school boat while lusher music represented the newer boat...the hurricane music and special effects, and even the romance theme were all really good. I forgot to check to see if it was a Carl Davis job or not.and of course, "The Kid" was great. Goes without saying.
I thought a lot of Buster's stuff was subtly sophisticated. His region of SF was a mix of pioneer and back East old wealth. He catered well.
